Polyethylene (PE) is a thermoplastic polymer with variable crystalline structure and an extremely large range of applications depending on the particular type. Polyethylene impacts the lives of millions of people each and every day as it is the world’s most versatile and widely used material for plastics.
SMART Polymers takes advantage of the exclusives technologies used by our suppliers to offer the best quality polyethylene grades.
High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is the most common and versatile of the polyethylene family. Manufactured by the polymerisation of ethylene and comonomer, commonly 1-butene and/or 1- hexene, it is used to produce various grades of homopolymer and copolymers suitable for a variety of applications.
HDPE's typical applications include corrosion-resistant industrial pipes used for potable water and sewage, geomembranes, plastic bottles, and various extrusion and moulding uses.
Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) is the newest member of the polyethylene family. LLDPE is a copolymer produced from the polymerisation of ethylene with a range of alpha olefins. The linear structure formed improves the mechanical performance of films over those produced using traditional LDPE materials.
Uses for LLDPE are wide and flexible applications include performance films, bags, wraps, agricultural films, pond liners and membranes. Rigid applications include toys, lids, caps and closures as well as irrigation pipes and Roto moulded tanks.
